Peter Welch Celebrates Selection of Tim Walz as Running Mate

BURLINGTON, VT (August 6, 2024) – Today, U.S. Senator Peter Welch celebrated Kamala Harris’ selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Welch endorsed Harris to be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States following the official and unanimous endorsement of Vermont’s pledged delegates to the Democratic National Convention. Welch released the following statement:

“Kamala Harris has made an excellent choice by selecting Tim Walz as her running mate. In Tim Walz, Vice President Harris has found a champion for rural America and hardworking families; a veteran who knows the women and men who serve deserve more opportunities when they come home. From the classroom, to the football field, to the National Guard, to the U.S. Congress and Minnesota State Capitol, Tim served his community and our country. As a Congressman representing rural Minnesota and as a two-term Governor, Tim has delivered real results for the people in his state. His life has been dedicated to service — in small and large ways — and that will continue in the Harris-Walz Administration.
“I was sworn into the House of Representatives with Tim Walz in 2007. I have personally seen him fight for his constituents and Minnesota, and can confidently say that what America needs now is Tim Walz’s progressive and pragmatic leadership. As Kamala Harris saw, Tim will bring his effective and sharp communication skills to the trail, and will take on MAGA republicans without fear or hesitation.

“Together, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will show that only one party is working to strengthen communities in Vermont and across America. I am proud to again endorse the Harris-Walz ticket, and look forward to working to get them elected. Forward!”
